Pedal Group operates over 70 ‘99 Bikes’ retail stores, two wholesale distribution businesses, and a commercial property business. Originally from Brisbane, Pedal Group now serves cyclists in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

 

 


 

The Role 

We are looking for a passionate payroll professional to join our pedal finance team based at our head office at Bowen Hills.  The primary purpose for this role is to lead the payroll team, ensuring accurate timely processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations. The role involves supporting our teams with queries to maintain financial integrity and employee satisfaction as well as streamlining processes. 

 


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Payroll Management:

    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation, approval, and distribution of employee payroll.

    • Oversee payroll schedules, super and payroll tax lodgements, and year-end reporting 

    • Monitor changes in award legislation and ensure compliance with national, state, and local regulations.

    • Managing all payroll tasks for Pedal Group across Australia and New Zealand including 99 Bikes and Advanced Traders, this includes onboarding of new employees, terminations, redundancies superannuation, reporting, reconciliation and auditing

    • Process fortnightly salary and timesheet payroll for approximately 800 employees

    • Set up EFT file for payment to employees

    • End to end payroll processing which includes manual checks and analysis to identify discrepancies

    • Calculation and preparation of manual payments, including termination, adjustments and redundancy pays 

  2. Process Improvement:

    • Analyze current payroll procedures and implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

    • Lead payroll system upgrades, integrations, or transitions as necessary.

  3. Compliance and Auditing:

    • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, labor laws, and tax regulations.

    • Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits.

  4. Team Leadership:

    • Supervise and mentor payroll staff, providing training and professional development.

    • Delegate tasks and ensure team objectives are met.

  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Partner with HR for benefits administration, employee onboarding, and offboarding.

    • Work with the Finance team to reconcile payroll accounts, payroll tax, superannuation and generate financial reports.

  6. Employee Support:

    • Address payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly.

    • Ensure clear communication about compensation, deductions, and compliance matters.

    • Communicate weekly in regular national and international phone ins with team leaders and our front line staff

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5+ years in payroll processing and leadership

    • Experience with payroll systems and accounting software.

    • Previous leadership or supervisory experience essential.

  • Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of payroll legislation across Australia and New Zealand, tax regulations, and best practices.

    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
